Continuous medial representations for geometric object modeling in 2D and 3D
نویسندگان
چکیده
We describe a novel continuous medial representation for describing object geometry and a deformable templates method for fitting the representation to images. Our representation simultaneously describes the boundary and medial loci of geometrical objects, always maintaining Blum’s symmetric axis transform (SAT) relationship. Cubic b-splines define the continuous medial locus and the associated thickness field, which in turn generate the object boundary. We present geometrical properties of the representation and derive a set of constraints on the b-spline parameters. The 2D representation encompasses branching medial loci; the 3D version can model objects with a single medial surface, and the extension to branching medial surfaces is a subject of ongoing research. We present preliminary results of segmenting 2D and 3D medical images. The representation is ultimately intended for use in statistical shape analysis.

Target detection Bridge Modelling using Point Cloud Segmentation Obtained from Photogrameric UAV
In recent years, great efforts have been made to generate 3D models of urban structures in photogrammetry and remote sensing. 3D reconstruction of the bridge, as one of the most important urban structures in transportation systems, has been neglected because of its geometric and structural complexity. Due to the UAV technology development in spatial data acquisition, in this study, the point cl...
متن کاملProjection Operation for Multidimensional Geometric Modeling with Real Functions
We discuss di erent techniques to projecting geometric objects de ned by real functions of several variables. The result of this operation is an object of the lower dimension with its own de ning function. We discuss several approaches: analytical methods, approximate projections and global maximum searches. The accuracy is compared for two algorithms: the union of maximal cross-sections and th...
متن کاملA novel Local feature descriptor using the Mercator projection for 3D object recognition
Point cloud processing is a rapidly growing research area of computer vision. Introducing of cheap range sensors has made a great interest in the point cloud processing and 3D object recognition. 3D object recognition methods can be divided into two categories: global and local feature-based methods. Global features describe the entire model shape whereas local features encode the neighborhood ...
متن کاملGeometric Modeling for Engineering Applications
A geometric model of an object – in most cases being a subset of the three dimensional space – can be used to better understand the object’s structure or behavior. Therefore data such as the geometry, the topology and other application specific data have to be represented by the model. With the help of a computer it is possible to manipulate, process or display these data. We will discuss diffe...
متن کامل3D Model Retrieval Using Medial Surfaces
Graphs derived from medial representations have been used for 2D object matching and retrieval with considerable success (Pelillo et al., 1999; Siddiqi et al., 1999b; Sebastian et al., 2001). In this chapter we consider consider the use of graphs derived from medial surfaces for 3D object matching and retrieval. The medial reprsentation allows for a qualitative abstraction based on a directed a...
